SELMER, Tennessee, Jan. 1 --- J. R. Adams, one of the most prominent citizens of this county, died in Selmer late tonight of infirmities of age. He would have been 84 years old had he lived until next Monday. Mr. Adams had lived an active life throughout his long career. He was born near Old Purdy on Jan. 4, 1842. For thirty years he was engaged in the banking business in Selmer, Tennessee. For twenty years he served McNairy County as court clerk.
Mr. Adams was a Confederate veteran, serving through the war as a captain with General Forrest. Surviving are his son, Lewis Adams, the correspondent of THE COMMERCIAL APPEAL at Selmer, Tennessee, and a daughter, Mrs. W. K.
