Obituary
Steela Augusta Posey was born in Russell county, Kentucky, June 12th, 1821, and was married to Sally Bradshaw April 2nd, 1840. Fourteen children were born of this union, of which seven are still living. He emigrated from Kentucky in 1855 and located in Macon county, Mo., and in 1856 he returned to Kentucky. In 1863 he again moved to Macon county, MO., and from there to Gentry county, Mo. In 1883 he moved to Caldwell, Kansas.

He united with the Baptist church in his early youth and remained a faithful Christian until his death. His wife died in 1865. On Dec. 6th, 1866 he was united in marriage to Mary Hill, eight children were born of this union, five of whom are still living. In 1894 he moved to Garfield county, Oklahoma. He was always hard working and industrious, was well liked by all who knew him. He was a kind husband and a good father. For the past four years he has been very feeble. Thinking a change might be beneficial he came back to Caldwell to live with his son, J.M. Posey where he died Oct. 17, 1901. His children and his wife were with him in his last illness. He leaves a wife and twelve children, three girls and nine boys, to mourn his loss. The funeral was conducted by Rev. B.F. Whicker at the residence at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, after which the remains were laid to rest in the city cemetery.
