SHREVEPORT, LA – Funeral services for John R. Whyte, age 74, of Shreveport, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2004, Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Reverend John Harp, associate pastor of Brookwood Baptist Church. Interment will be at Forest Park Cemetery on St. Vincent Avenue, Shreveport, LA.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday April 8, 2004 at the funeral home.
John was born April 29, 1929 in Shreveport, La. He retired from Shreveport Parks and Recreation in 1986. He was a member of the Cedar Grove Masonic Lodge #403, American Legion Post 6, 40 & 8 Club #137, and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #233.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John L. and Marjorie Whyte; half sister, Carolyn Crawford.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Edna Laborde Whyte; three daughters: Connie Pender, Bonnie Wilburn and husband, Danny; Linda Fletcher and husband, John, and his constant and faithful companion, his dog "Beaux"; eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, half sister, Edythe Baker.
Pallbearers will be Jason Hatchett, Kenneth Fletcher, Ronnie Jones, Ronnie Mitchell, Jack Gowan and Jerry Parks.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to his doctors and nurses at Willis-Knighton Pierremont, Life Care and Hospice.
