Meda Morris Patrick passed away on Wednesday Aug. 11, 2010, in Athens, Texas, at the age of 94 years. She was a long-time resident of Mount Plesant.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Hopkins County, Texas, with Rev. Ed Dodd officiating. Services are under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home, Athens, Texas.

Born on Nov. 1, 1915, in Shirley, Hopkins County, Texas, Mrs Patrick was the daughter of Robert F. Morris and Ola Jane Coppedge Morris. At an early age, her family moved to Sulphur Springs, Texas, where she attended school and graduated from high school.

On Jan. 1, 1939, she married J.D. Ptrick in Sulphur Springs.

Mrs. Patrick's home and heart were always in Mt. Pleasant, having moved here in 1942, and residing on the corner of East First Street and Lide Avenue since the year 1951. Because of health concerns, it became necessary for her to move away in the year 2000.

Mrs. Patrick was a member of First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant, where she was active until she moved away. Her life was given to caring for her family and others, and entertaining her grandchildren. She was very active in her children's school and church activities, including always being a "home-room mother," as well as a Girl Scout leader. She was an accomplished seamstress, both professionally and for her daughters as they were growing up.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 47 years, J. D. "Jake" Patrick; one sister, Lois Milligan; and two brothers, W.H. Morris and T.A. Morris.

She is survived by her daughters, Jane Jones of Woodland Park, Colorado, Elaine and Robert Barnett of Athens, and Linda and Jack Troutt of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; grandchildren Tricia Jones, Chris Jones, Cashel Troutt Newhouse and Trey Troutt; and one great-grandchild, Ella Grace Newhouse.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, or a charity of choice.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion Cemetery.
