John R. Barry, 81, of Livingston and former Belgrade, Montana and Bellevue, Washington resident, died on Sunday evening, November 29, 1998 at Livingston Health and Rehab Center. Mr. Barry was born on June 30, 1917 in Livingston, the son of Frank and Hilder Barry. He spent his early life and received his education in Livingston, graduating from Park County High School in 1935. he then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the 163rd Infantry Division in New Guinea and Australia during WWII. While on leave from the Army in 1942, he married Aldeen Secor in Livingston. Following his discharge, he returned to Livingston and worked at various jobs, including with the railroad and a local lumber company. After living for a short time in Butte, they moved to the Seattle area, where he became employed as a lumber buyer for a local construction company.

Mrs. Aldeen Barry died in 1990. On February 5, 1991 he married Jean L. (Jeffries) Gibson in Livingston. They made their home in Belgrade until moving to Livingston in July of this year. Mr. Barry had been an active member of the Elks and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Barry; three sons; one daughter; three stepsons; one step daughter; two grandchildren and three step grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 3rd, in the chapel of Franzen Davis Funeral Home with Rev. Owen W. Arrington officiating. Music provided by pianist and organist Sarah Leyde. Cremation will follow the services. Graveside committal and burial of the cremated remains will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 4th in Mountain View Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Shrine Hospital for Crippled Children or to the Alzheimer's Unit of Livingston Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Arrangements are under the direction of Franzen Davis Funeral Home and Cremations Service.
