He was born Dec. 14, 1931, in Sykesville, Pa., and lived in Jacksonville since 1971.
He was a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps who served in Korea and Vietnam and was in The Battle of The Chosin Reserve. He retired from the Marine Corps in 1971 after 23 years of service.
He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V," Purple Heart Medal with 3*, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation with 4*, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal with 4*, Vietnamese Service Medal with 3*, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Staff Service Medal with 1*, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal.
He was the owner of The Continental Lounge (currently VFW Post 9133) and Marine Gun Shop. Captain Kresty was a life member of the NRA, VFW Post 9133 and Third Marine Division. He also was a member of the DAV, FRA and Coastal Carolina Chapter of the Chosin Few. He was also a member of the Lincoln & Continental Owners Club and Antique Automobile Club of America. Ed was also a Steelers Fan.
He is survived by his wife, Carmella Kresty of the home; son, Dennis J. Donnelly of Annapolis, Md.; daughter-in-law, Betsy Donnelly of Williamstown, N.J.; sister, Barbara Smith of Sykesville, Pa.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Ida Kresty, and brother, James Kresty, all of Sykesville, Pa.; daughter, Denise Kresty of Reading, Pa.; son, David J. Donnelly of Williamstown, N.J.; and a grandson, Micka Kresty.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15 at the Infant of Prague Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with full Military Honors.
The family will received friends from 6 to 8 tonight, Oct. 14 at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the DAV, Chapter 16, in Jacksonville.
