Marion "Bud" R. Bess

Marion "Bud" R. Bess, 73, a longtime Boring resident, died Friday, Jan. 12, at his home in Prineville.

Viewing will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at Sandy Funeral Home, 39551 Pleasant St., Sandy.

A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, Jan. 20, also at Sandy Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Cliffside Cemetery, 1890 Ten Eyck Road, Sandy. Refreshments will be served after the service at the Estacada Odd Fellows Hall.

Bud was born April 8, 1933, near Tulsa, Okla., to Ed Bess and Lois Alaska Davis. He was raised and educated in Oklahoma, Arizona, Oregon and Missouri.

He enlisted in the Army and served in Korea during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged.

On June 9, 1954, Bud married Ramona Richards in California. They later divorced.

On Aug. 31, 1982, Bud married Lorraine "Lorrie" Ahrenkiel. They split their time between Boring and Prineville.

Bud worked for various companies as a logger until he was forced to retire in 1988. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, camping and four-wheeling. He also enjoyed telling stories.

Bud was preceded in death by his sons, Buddy Bess and Joshua Ahrenkiel Bess; brother, Denver Ed Bess; and sister, Anna Mae Brownfield.

Survivors include his wife of Boring and Prineville; daughters, Marion Yates of Trinity, Texas, and Debbie Anderson of Estacada; brothers, Bill Bess of Huntington, Bob Bess of Tigard, and John Bess and Howard Bess, both of Estacada; and sisters, Lois Smith of Winlock, Wash., Sue Tippetts of LeVan, Utah, Merry Grant of Vancouver, Wash., Faye Pace of Portland and Lanie Jones of Estacada.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Crook County Fire & Rescue, 500 N.E. Belknap St., Prineville, 97754, or the Sandy Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4273, P.O. Box 404, Sandy, 97055.

Sandy Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
