Rufus Warrenfeltz was born on September 14, 1856 near Ellerton, on a farm, the son of Jacob Jr. and Mary "Polly" Ann Rice Warrenfeltz.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his paternal grandmother, Mary Measell Warrenfeltz and six sisters, Caroline; Mary Ann Rebecca; Amanda "Mandy"; Minerva; Elizabeth and Margaret and two brothers, Josiah "Jonas" and Samuel Warrenfeltz, all at home and predeceased four sisters Ann Elmira Catherine; Louisa; Rachael and Anne C. Warrenfeltz and two brothers, Jacob III and Cornelius that were twins, one sister and one brother, Louisa and Cornelius, died three days before Rufus.
