OBITUARY.
BELL--At her home in Adair Co., Sept. 7th, 1888, Mrs. Martha A.C. Bell beloved wife of Thomas Bell, aged 54 yrs. 1 mo. 4 da.
Sister Bell was born in Belmont county Ohio, Aug. 3, 1834. At the age of 16 years she accepted Jesus as her Savior and united with Ebenezer Bap. Church.
For many years previous to her death she had been a devout and faithful member of New Prospect Church, Sperry Mo. She was indeed a "bright and shining light." She was an able defender of the cause of Christ. Well versed in the Scriptures. As a member of the church, of the prayer meeting and of the Sabbath school we seldom find her equal. She was Assistant Supt. of the S.S. at her death. Her place cannot be filled. She leaves a husband, a son and daughter, and a host of friends to mourn their loss.
"To know her was to love her.
To name her was to praise."
One daughter had preceeded [sic] her to the spiritual world. She was conscious that the death angel was near. She bade the weeping ones goodbye, and had her son kneel at her bedside that she might pronounce a mother's blessing upon him. May her loved ones be as faithful as the wife and mother who has gone to dwell in the mansions prepared for her. Just before death she sang:
"There's a land that is fairer than day,
And by faith I can see it afar."
