Wife of Conrad Eckenrode (3) brn. December 29, 1776 (WK-book 91)

Please see below for her husband's family information:

Conrad Eckenroth (3) brn. Lynn township, Northampton Co., PA.

Son of Henry Eckroth/Eckenroth/Eckenrode/Eckrode (2) and Anna Barbara (Kuhn)
Husband of Catherine (Norbeck) brn. August 19, 1778. (WK-book, page 91)

Conrad Eckenrode (3) Son of Henry and Anna Barbara (Kuhn) Eckenroth was born on 29 Decmeber 1776 in Lynn Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania and baptized 19 January 1777 at Spitzenberg "Asperum Collem". His godparents were his aunt and uncle, Conrad Beverts/Baver and Margareth (Eckenrode) Bevertz/Baver. (GR, page 61; "Records", Volume 3, page 338). Conrad was about 10 Years old when the family moved to York County. He lived with his father in Berwick Township, York County (Adams County) until sometime between 1810 and 1820 when he moved to Straban Township, Adams County. In 1799, just before Adams County was formed from York County, he was assessed a Tax of $888 in Berwick Township. ("History of Cumberland & Adams County", Warner, Beers & County, 1886, page 215). (WK-book, page 86)

I have not been able to find Conrad in the 1830 Census, but collation of data from tax records, school records for his childrren, deed records and census data show that he resided: 1790-1801 in Berwick Township, Adams County; 1801-1804 in Mt. Pleasant Township, Adams County; 1805-1813 in Berwick Township, Adams County; 1813-1825 in Straban Township, Adams County; 1825-1828 in Cumberland Township, Adams County. By 1834 he had migrated to Hamilton Township, Franklin County. In 1834, he purchased 389 acres of land in Ambersons's Valley, Fammett Township, Franklin County where in the 1840 Census he was listed aged 60-70 as head of a household of 2 sons 15-20, his wife 50-60 and two females aged 5-10 and 10-15. He died there on 21 April 1848. His wife died nine days later on 30 April 1848. They are buried in an unmarked grave in either St. Mary's Cemetery, Doylesburg, Pennsylvania or Amberson Union Cemetery. ("Abstracts from The Republican Compiler, Adams County, PA. 1831-1851", LDS GS#974.842, Vol.28, page 338; Franklin County Deeds- David & Mary Washabaugh recorded 1835 to Conrad Eckenrode, Book and Page Numbers not copied). (WK-book, page 86)

After the death of Conrad on 21, April 1848, his son Conrad Jr. Eckenrode (4) requested the Franklin County Orphan's Court to partition, divide, and / or appraise the value of his father's real estate. In this petition, Conrad Jr. identified ten of his father's children, of whom nine had survived their father, and three of is grandchildren. (WK-book, page 86)

Collation of Conewago Chapel Register data, with the Franklin County Court Record and census data shows that Conrad Eckenrode Sr. (3) and Catharine (Norbeck) Eckenrode had at least 11, possibly 12, children -9 boys and 2, possibly 3, girls as follows:

1. Elizabeth (Eckenrode (4) "the elder" brn. June 12, 1798 and baptized July 1, 1798. Sponsors were: John Laurence and Magdalen Norbeck (CR, 1980, page B-72; Original Book I, page 23) It is possible that her full name was "Mary Elizabeth" in which case this biographical sketch should be combined with child number 3 below. On the other hand, it seems more likely that this Elizabeth died before the birth on November 14, 1806 of Child number 5 below also named Elizabeth. I have no further data on Elizabeth "The Elder" Eckenrode (4) (WK-book, page 87)

2. Henry Eckenrode (4) brn. April 23, 1800, baptized May 12, 1800, sponsors were: Henry and Catharine Hakenroad (sic) (CR, 1980, page B-43; Original Book I, page 35). Jacob and Mary Little were living in Adams County at the time of her father's death in Franklin County and probably had additional children. Jacob Little died on Nobember 8, 1877, aged 77 years, ? Months, 23 Days and his wife Mary (Elizabeth) died on June 27, 1869 (misreading for 1876) aged 73 Years 10 Months, 4 Days, both buried in Conewago Cemetery. A. Roseanna McLaughlin baptized August 20, 1826 (CR, 1980, page B-138, Original Book I, page 294)
B. John and Catharine (Franklin County Probate Petition).
Elizabeth re-deceased her father dying on April 26, 1833 (CR, 190, page D-25). I believe her full given name was Mary Elizabeth. Their daughter Catharine was a minor at the time of her grandfather's death and the Franklin County Orphan's Court appointed Peter Shearer/Scheiry as her "Guardian ad litem".
