Charles W. Dorwart, sixty-seven, 453 E. Strawberry St., died at his home at 8:45 a.m. yesterday after an illness of three months. He was employed at the Armstrong Cork Co. for 20 years prior to his retirement in 1955. He was a member of the Lancaster City Police Department in 1922 and 1923, and was a Republican committeeman from the first precinct of the fourth ward for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War I. Born in Lancaster, he was a son of the late George W. and Annie S. Wendler Dorwart and was a lifetime resident of the city. He was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, Jennie M. Wiker Dorwart; a son, Charles W. Jr., Lancaster; three grandchildren, and two sisters, Lillian, wife of William W. Haun, Lancaster, and Dorothy, wife of Richard Gardner, Louisville, Ky. (Intelligencer Journal - Sept 20, 1957)
