J. Coleman Bagby Dies at Home Here
Services Friday afternoon, at the River Forest Presbyterian church, were for John Coleman Bagby, who died suddenly Wednesday evening at his 535 Clinton place home. The Rev. Charles Ferguson Ball officiated at the services, which were followed by burial Forest Home cemetery. Serving as honorary pall bearers were H. Edmund Luff, Albert Cotsworth, Owen Roberts, and Ellis K. Kerr. Active pall bearers were Thomas M. Hills, Clyde E. Shorey, , Thomas Davis, Luther I. Replogle, Earle B. Fowler, and S. Justin Pope.
Mr. Bagby was born in Louisville, Ky„ and came to Oak Park as a small boy with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bagby. He was at first tutored by his mother, and then continued through the elementary and high school years, to be graduated from Oak Park-River Forest high school. He attended the University of Chicago before choosing the insurance business field. He was, until his' retirement following World War II, Chicago manager of the Commercial Union Assurance company, an English fire insurance firm.
His marriage to Marjorie Moore, the daughter of the Nathan G. Moores, took place in 1927. They built their home of 25 years, at 1115 Ashland in River Forest, where they resided until their move to 535 Clinton place, two years ago. He was long a member of the River Forest Presbyterian church, which he served as trustee. Before his marriage, he was a member and a vestryman of Grace Episcopal church. One of the first members upon organization of both the River Forest Tennis club, and the Oak Park Country club, he had served both as a secretary. A continuous member of the University club of Chicago, he was also formerly long a member of the Union League club of Chicago.
His widow, Marjorie, survives him, and his children; Salley, Mrs. A. Thomas Davis, of Oak Park, Nancy, attending Northwestern university, his twin sons, John and David, at home, and his grandchildren, Jimmy and Sarah Davis.

John Coleman Bagby, 69, of 535 Clinton pl., River Forest, died last night in his home. He retired in 1938 as manager of the Chicago office of the Commercial Union Assurance company. He leaves his widow, Marjorie; two daughters, Mrs. Sally Davis and Nancy Bagby, and two sons, John and David. Services will be held at 3 p. m. tomorrow in the First Presbyterian church, River Forest.

Mr. Bagby was a member of Beta Theta Pi and a University of Chicago graduate, class of 1907.
