Richard E. "Dick" Korn, 91, of Jackson Center, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2010, at the Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home.

He was born on October 7, 1919, in Montra, the son of William and Wilhelmina (Linker) Korn. On August 9, 1941, he married Eleanor Winegardner, who is deceased. On July 17, 1965, he married Ann Houck, who preceded him in death on February 5, 1983.

Mr. Korn was retired from Korn Lumber Co. in Montra, where he was co-owner. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, serving from 1943 to 1946.

He was a lifelong member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Montra. He also was a member of the Ohio State Auxiliary Patrol. He graduated from Jackson Center High School in 1938.

Mr. Korn pursued his ambition to fly airplanes. Under the G.I. Bill, he entered flight training at Korn Airfield near Montra, under the tutelage of Arl Korn, and took his first solo flight in 1947. He was a first cousin to Edward and Milton Korn, pioneer aviators who were contemporaries of the Wright Brothers. Mr. Korn was a loyal fan of the Ohio State University Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews, a stepdaughter, a stepdaughter-in-law, and several step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, Carl Korn, Irvin Korn, Cloyd Korn, Paul Korn, Frederick Korn and William Korn Jr.; a sister, Kathryn Korn Davis; and a stepson and stepson-in-law.

Following Mr. Korn's request, there will be no public visitation or funeral services. Graveside services will be held at the Montra Cemetery at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are in the care of the Cromes Funeral Home & Crematory, 302 S.Main Ave.
