Funeral services were conducted Thursday, June 19, 2003, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by the Rev. Chelcie Gibson and Rev. Ray Adkins. Burial in Bowen Cemetery.
He was born August 19, 1953, in Huntington, a son of Velvie Gore Adkins of Barboursville and the late Herman Adkins. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gary Granville Adkins and Joseph Allen Adkins.
He was an employee of Steel of West Virginia and was a member of Bethlehem United Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Barboursville High School and was a member of Local Steelworkers of America #37. He was active in the Barboursville and Hite Saunders community where he loved coaching baseball and football. He coached Little League Baseball for 29 years and Midget League Football for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Napier Adkins; three sons, Dewain Allen Adkins of Huntington, Dax Joseph Adkins of Barboursville and Rick Painter of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Brenda McClellan of Lavalette, Drema Dean of Barboursville and Gilbert "Bertie" Simmons of Chesapeake, Ohio; one brother, Herman Adkins Jr. of Barboursville; four grandchildren Katlin, Nick, Logan and Brady and a host of nieces and nephews, several cousins and many friends. "Dee" will be missed by everyone who knew him.
