Althea Mae Cherico Shinn,83,Clarion,died July 1,2005,UPMC Presbyterian Hosp.Pittsburg,from injuries she received when she was struck by a car in Clarion Twp.Mrs.Shinn was dau.of late Horner and Della Weeter Weaver.Mrs,Shinn first married Feb.15,1952,to Francis Cherico,who died Aug.1977,she then married April 11,1999,to Thursto Shinn,who survives.Mrs.Shinn and her first husband,Francis,were founders of the Children Shop in Clarion which they opened in June 1953.After the death of Mr.Cherico,she continued along with her two daus.to operate the Children Shop.Mrs.Shinn was graduate of Ashland High School in Kossuth.Mrs.Shinn was member of the Riverhill Evangelical Congregational Church where she worked in the church nursery and provided baked goods for many church functions.Mrs.Shinn enjoyed politics on tv and talking politics with anyone who would listen.She enjoyed working in her yard,taking care of her houseplants and cooking for her family.
Surviving,in addition to her second husband,Thurston Shinn,are two children,Shirley Orcutt,husband,Rod,Clarion,five grandchildren,Mindy Steele,Shelbyville,Ky.Krista Steele,Clarksville,Ohio,Becky Steele,Clarion and Jerad and Tyler Orcutt,Clarion;one stepson,George Shinn,New Mexico;seven step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.Mrs.Shinn also is survived by one brother,Earl"Woody"Weaver and wife,Carole,Knox and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents and first husband,Mrs.Shinn was preceded in death by four brothers,Wilford Weaver in 1985,Stanley"Tang"Weaver in 1993,Charles"Dobe"Weaver in 1999 and William"Bill"Weaver in 1963,a niece,Charlene Weaver in 1962;two nephews,W.Ronald Weaver in 1997 and larry Weaver in 1968;and a stepson,Thurston A.Shinn.
