DEATH OF MRS. H. J. WALKER
-----
Beautiful Life Ended in the Passing of Beloved Wife of Former County Treasurer.

Unceasing vigil at the bedside of Mrs. H. J. Walker was ended yesterday morning at 5 o'clock when death relieved this beloved woman of an illness that has prostrated her without interruption for some time and kept her in an unconscious condition for two unbroken weeks. The deceased was 71 years of age. She was the esteemed wife of Dr. H. J. Walker, former county treasurer, and, in addition, is survived by the following-named children: Dr. C. E. Walker, Rev. W. L. Walker, Mrs. J. B. Cochrane, Mr. J. O. Walker and Miss Kittie Walker. These have been constantly by her bedside during that period of her illness that has been regarded as critical.

Mrs. Walker has been a sufferer for nearly a year, or longer. While able at times to be out during the greater period of that time she has been on her bed and for the past two weeks she has not only been in a condition of absolute unconsciousness, but unable to take the slightest nourishment. The prolongation of life under such circumstances is unusual and witnesses to her exceptional constitution.

Mrs. Walker was a woman of quiet and reserved disposition, uniformly lovable and companionable. She abided in the affectionate regard of her children and in the esteem of a host of friends during her life, possessing a strong Christian character that exerted an influence for good wherever she was known. In her passing, her "children rise up and call her blessed" and innumerable acquaintances and intimate friends will not cease to hold in memory her cheerful disposition, her uninterrupted adherence to those principles that contribute to a strong and splendid womanhood.

Mrs. Walker was an earnest and consecrated Christian woman, a long-time member of the Presbyterian church and notable for her piety and scrupulous attention to the duties of her home and her church. With her husband, she was formerly a devoted member of the Presbyterian church at Huntersville and since removing to the city, her membership had been transferred to the Second church.

The funeral will be conducted this afternoon at 4 o'clock from the residence, No. 216 North Brevard street, by Rev. J. M. Grier of concord, Mrs. Walker's former pastor, assisted by Rev. Waiter E. Furr, pastor of St. Paul's Presbyterian church, and Rev. A. A. McGeachy, pastor of the Second Presbyterian church. Nephews will be pall-bearers. These will be: Dr. A. M. Berryhill, Rev. Joseph Berryhill, Messrs. John A. Berryhill, R. S. S. Berryhill, Joseph, Samuel and William Bigham, Harry and Bert Todd.
