Edward G. Hamler, 84, of Kansas City, Missouri, formerly of Lansing, Kansas, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, at Olathe Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 25, 1925, in Leavenworth the son of Walter and Dora (Corriston) Hamler.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1945. On Feb. 27, 1950, he married Anita L. Borchardt in Bartlesville, Okla. She survives at the home. He is also survived by his daughter, Rita Sue and husband Randy Reeves of Olathe, Kan.; two grandchildren, Amy (Jason) Reeves-Locke and Kevin (Jennifer) Reeves; and four great-grandchildren.

Ed was preceded in death by two siblings, Walter Hamler and Dorothy Colt.

He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, past president of the Lansing Lions, past fire chief of the Delaware township fire department and the first city council member of Lansing in 1959.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
