Maeomi Gates McDowell, of Spartanburg, died Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Magnolia Place. Born May 1, 1915 in Inman, SC, she was the daughter of the late Gus William and Ollie Nates Gates, the stepdaughter of the late Ola Moore Gates, and the wife of the late Ransom L. McDowell.
She was a member of Southside Baptist Church where she was a member of the Class of the Open Door and the Helen Clapp W.M.U. She retired from U.S. Soil Conservation Service.
Survivors include three nieces, Susan Clary Cantrell and her husband Wendell of Spartanburg, Margie Gates, and Brenda Barwick and her husband Vic, all of Lexington, SC; a nephew, Bill Gates and his wife Glenda of Elgin, SC; and four great-nieces and two great-nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, GeDelle Gates Clary; a brother, Murdaugh Gates; and a nephew, John Harold Clary, Jr.
Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Benjamin Littlejohn. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
