Edward Rutledge Abrames Sr., 85, of the 2200 block of Mount Pleasant Road, died Aug. 17, 2001, in Norfolk.
A native of Windsor, Canada, he was a retired inspector with Ford Motor Co. after 44 years of service. He was a member of the United Auto Workers, Local No. 919, where he served as sergeant at arms.
He is survived by his wife, Lola Nosay Abrames; a daughter, Edythe Abrames Crowley and husband Michael of Westfield, Mass.; two sons, Edward R. Abrames Jr. and wife Connie of Chesapeake and Irvin Lee Abrames and wife Ingrid of Hansville, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Irma Chesson Weller and husband Milton of Ocala, Fla.; two granddaughters, Christina M. Abrames of Hansville and Michelle R. Abrames of Chesapeake; four grandsons, Erik L. Abrames of Rockville, Md., Duane E. Abrames of Virginia Beach, Patrick M. Crowley and Timothy E. Crowley, both of Westfield, Mass.; five stepgrandchildren, Bonnie Amerson Lapham and husband David of Edenton, N.C., William Amerson of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Terry Lee Amerson and wife Janet of Chesapeake, Donald Lee Etheridge Jr. and Dean L. Etheridge and wife Rita, both of Beaver Dam, Va.; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; three stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and his beloved cat, Cissy Lou Abrames of the home. He was predeceased by a daughter, Phoebe S. Etheridge.
A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, by Pastor Harold Bergey. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
