The first four children were born in Tennessee, the next six were born in Arkansas, three children born in Kansas and one child was born on the Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory.
James and his family traveled to Kansas where he met Margaret Jane Lynch. They had their first child prior to their marriage in 1877 and were married March 16, 1878 in Eria, Neosho, Kansas. James, if his birth date was correct would have been 62. Margaret said when they married he had black hair, but a few weeks later the dye washed out and he was completely gray. She was 17 when they married. James brought three children into this marriage: Amanda and Charles Walters and a step child Perry Taylor.

When they moved to Willard they lived on a farm by the Hot Springs. While there Rebecca was raped by a hired hand. She was 12 years old. It is said that James killed the man by throwing him into the hotpots.
I ask my father what he remembered about his grandmother Walters, and he said he didn't know her name - she was just grandma Walters, but he did remember that she always wore an apron and in one pocket she had a corn cob pipe and in the other she has a bag of tobacco. He had never seen a lady smoke before so all he ever did was stare at her -- she would just laugh at him.
James was a wagoneer, a farmer, a trapper and a laborer. James and Margaret were baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Four of their children lived to be adults and to raise their own family.
After James passed away on February 9, 1901, Margaret remarried James Steel on May 23, 1907. They lived in Hansen and Twin Falls, Idaho. She was widowed once again and passed away September 2, 1927 and is buried in the Twin Falls Cemetery. Life was not easy for Margaret. She lived to be 66.
Margaret's father David Duncan Lynch is buried in Locomotive Spring, Box Elder County. There is no cemetery listed.
