Lawrence Heald, 70, a retired farmer, died at his home here Sunday night after a three-week illness.

Mr. Heald was born in What Cheer March 10, 1878. He was one of five sons of Elnathan and Eliza Hoge Heald.

He came to West Branch after farming claims in Canada and living for a time in the state of Washington. He was married April 28, 1921, to Lydia Belle Thomas, and they lived near Centerdale until his retirement.

A veteran of World War I, Mr. Heald served 19 months in Europe. He is survived by his wife; one brother, Ralph Heald of Campbell, Calif., and serveral nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Friends Meeting House with burial in Hickory Grove cemetery near West Branch. Members of the American legion will serve as honorary pall bearers.
