MONTEREY -- Funeral services for Manuel Edward Powell, 85, of Monterey, will be held at 1 p.m. on Tues., Jan. 11, from the chapel of Horner Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Welch Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. today, Mon., Jan. 10, at the funeral home.

Mr. Powell died on Sat., Jan. 8, 2000, in Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville.

He was born on June 1, 1914, in White County to the late Liff and Kate DeRossitt Powell. Mr. Powell was a retired mechanical/electrical engineer with the former Clinchfield Coal Company. He was a member of Monterey United Methodist Church.

His family includes a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Bobby Andrews; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Francis and Judy Powell and Ed Powell; a brother, Louis Powell of Rock Island; two sisters, Bernice Stout of Nashville, and Lou Verna Lowery of Sparta; three grandchildren, Miranda Andrews, Storm and Kip Powell; and four great-grandchildren, Shane, Kane, Cassie and Allie Powell, all of Monterey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Overstreet Powell; a sister, Dimple Null; and three brothers, Jimmy, Raymond and Liff Powell.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews of Mr. Powell.

Dr. Martin Thielen will officiate at the services.
