Donald Alexander McLeod (DA) was born in Upper Tote, Trotternish on the Isle of Skye. His parents immigrated to the United States in 1856 when he was 18 months old. DA's early schooling in Ostego, allowed him to become Civil Engineer in Allegan County. His Civil Engineering projects were constructed while in partnership with his brother William- building many structures under Government Contracts. He grew up in Eastern Allegan County Michigan, and was always living close-by to 'Kitty'. He married her New Year's Day, 1880.

As a builder, DA was a Mason & Knight of the Macabees (KOM)
