Charles C. Ackerman Found Dead In Home
The lifeless body of Charles Carl Ackerman, 68, was found about 10 o'clock on Friday night by Town Marthsll Tom Thurston and Ralph D. Wooden, a neighbor, in the kitchen of the Ackerman home in the south west part of town.
It was the habit of "Jerry" as he was familiarly known about town, to sit on the bench in front of the armory in the evenings, and visit with passersby. When he did not show up as usual, inquiry was made around town concerning his weherabouts. When it was learned that no one had seen him all day Friday, Police Officer Thurston and Wooden went to his house to see if he was ill and found h is lifeless body.
Death was thought to have taken Jerry on Thursday, August 18, 1955. The County Coroner said Jerry suffered a heart attack and it took his life.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Ackerman and lived his entire life in Remington.
Survivors are one brother, William Ackerman of Goodland, a nephew, Russell Gangon of Indianapolis, two grand nieces, Judy and Barbara Miller, and one grand nephew, Richard Miller, the children of Mr. and the late Mrs. George Miller of Chicago.
The body was taken to the Howard Funeral Home. Funeral services were conducted in the Howard chapel, with Rev. R.W. Michel, Methodist pastor, officiating.
Burial was made in Remington cemetery
Jerry was an avid baseball fan, following the American and National League games via radio and television daily. He had lived alone since the death of his brother, John, a few years ago.
