Dr. John Cochran, married the only sister of Philip Schuyler,lived in Albany when the colonies rebelled against the British Crown. The Continental Congress at the recommendation of Commander in Chief George Washington appointed Cochran as Surgeon General of the middle department of the Army. In 1781, Cochran was promoted to Director General of the Military Hospitals of the United States Army, mentioned on his tombstone. He was notable also for his contributions regarding inoculations,a new treatment at that period, at Valley Forge of the Continental soldiers for smallpox which resulted in the reduction of losses in the ranks for that disease.

Gertrude, His Wife, Dr. John died in April in the year 1807 in the 77th year of his age and the latter in March in the year 1813 in the 89th year of her age.
