Arthur was the eldest of eight children born to Wilmer Elsworth Goode and Aura Belle Poyser. He married Nellie Waddell (daughter of Joseph S. Waddell and Mary Jane) on 25 Nov 1907 in Medford, Jackson county, Oregon. They had five children:
