During World War II Tec5 Bill Charles Butler served in the Medical Detachment, 7th Armored Infantry Battalion, Combat Command A (CCA), 8th Armored Division. Awards include but are not limited to: Purple Heart Medal; Combat Medical Badge; European–African–Middle Eastern (EAME) Campaign Medal with 3 bronze campaign stars for combat service in the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe Campaigns.

Postwar Bill relocated from Oklahoma to Oregon were on August 20, 1950 he married Gloria M Reed in Grants Pass, Oregon, they had two children during their marriage. The Butler's took up residence in Medford, Oregon where Bill was employed as a Design Engineer with Pacific Power & Light. Bill died on April 4, 1967 in Providence Hospital, Medford, Oregon due to myocardial infarction.
