Gertrude Staloch (Busha - grandma in polish) passed away on April 3, 2007 at her family's home in Drayton, ND with her family and her strength, the rosary in her hand.

Gertrude Sally Benke was born on Nov. 17, 1908 in Wanger Twp. near Florian, MN, the daughter of Nick and Victoria (Rybaski) Benke. She grew up on the family farm being one of five children. She attended country school at District 50 and Argyle High School. She was baptized, made first holy communion and confirmed in the Catholic faith. Her Catholic faith was the center of her life, living it daily. She was kind, considerate and compassionate and loved everyone. She will be greatly missed. On July 8, 1930, she was united in marriage to Louis Steve Staloch at Assumption Catholic Church in Florian. They celebrated 63 years of married life together. Assumption Catholic Church was very dear to her where she was the oldest member. She was a member all her life. She was active in the Ladies Alter Society where she was president for 25 years. She was also a member of the Polish National Alliance. Gertrude was fluent in the Polish language. The couple made their home in Wanger Twp. where they farmed the family farm and also raised cattle and poultry.

Those most fortunate to share in her life were her son, Eugene of Alvarado, MN and friend, Dorothy Glaser, daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Dale Aasand of Drayton, ND, granddaughters; Marjorie Allen, Paulette (Eric) Jeanotte, Patricia (Marty) Ekren, Kathleen (Richard) Wilhelmi, Michelle Staloch and Sheryl Manske, grandsons; Michael (Jessica) Aasand and Steven (Angela) Aasand, ten great-grandchildren; Travis and Mathew Ekren, Zachary and Tianna Wilhelmi, Dilon Allen, Jesse and Lucas Swanson, Madison and Nicholas Manske and Kiara Aasand, daughter-in-law, Virgina Staloch of Grand Forks, ND and sister-in-law, Alvina Benke of Brooklyn Park, MN. Lest we not forget, her constant companion, Casey, the family boxer.

Gertrude was busy with farm life, cooking, baking, gardening, canning and taking care of her children and all of the animals. She enjoyed crocheting, leaving behind many dollies and afghans. Gertrude enjoyed fishing and time at the cabin at Lake of the Woods, Warroad. She especially loved her time entertaining family, relatives and friends. She loved bingo and time at the nickel slots at the casino.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter, brothers; George, Adolph and Harry and sister, Pauline Chwialkowski.

MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at Assumption Catholic Church in Florian, MN. VISITATION: 12:30PM - 2:00PM with a 1:00 PM Rosary on Tuesday at Assumption Catholic Church in Florian. INTERMENT: Assumption Catholic Cemetery, Florian, MN.
