YORKTOWN--Sarah Belle Applegate passed away Wednesday at Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Sarah was born in Carol County, IN to her parents, Guy and Edna (Loring) Thompson. Sarah was a 1936 graduate of Yorktown High School. She worked for the Yorktown State Bank and later the Industrial Trust Bank where she retired in 1986.
She was a member of the Cammack United Methodist Church. She was the recipient of the Yorktown Honored Alumni in 1982 and also named ABWA, Woman of the Year. She was Yorktown's Homecoming Parade Marshal in 1983. Sarah enjoyed knitting, working with stained glass, and traveling with friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Applegate; two brothers, Bernard and Robert Thompson; four sisters, Mary Jones, Betty Bubp, Maureen Thompson and Martha Kokena.
Funeral services will be Monay 1:30 p.m. at the Gant Funeral Home, Yorktown Chapel, with Pastors Woody and Emily Sears. Burial will follow in the Yorktown Cemetery.
Friends may call 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cammack United Methodist Church.
