August Ahrens, 81, retired farmer, died early Sunday morning at the homestead
farm on route 5, Manitowoc. He had been ill since October.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., from the Wattawa, Urbanek
and Schlei funeral home and at 2 o'clock from the Wesley Methodist church, the
Rev. Carl Hagen officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. Ahrens was born in 1859 in Kossuth and took up farming. In 1884 he married
Ottilie Lemke and they located on the present farm, now operated by his sons.
Mrs. Ahrens died in 1932.
He served on the school board in Manitowoc Rapids from 1900 until 1925.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Arthur Heinke of Brillion; three sons, Richard
and Elmer at home, Edward, of Manitowoc Rapids; five brothers, William, Louis,
of this city, George of Wausau, John, Charles, of Two Rivers; sister, Mrs. Anna
Koeser, of Two Rivers; and four grandchildren.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home from this evening until the hour of
the services Wednesday.
