John Brian, son of Richard Brian and Mary Nixon, was born on 4 Oct 1859 in Longton, Staffordshire, England. He was christened on 23 Oct 1859 in Longton. John immigrated to America with his mother and siblings aboard the Abyssinia, arriving in New York on 17 Feb 1871. (His father had immigrated the previous year.) His mother Mary died shortly after their immigration and his father married within the year. John married Sarah M Heames, daughter of George Heames and Jane Blakeman Keen, on 4 Feb 1880 in Trenton, Mercer, New Jersey. He and his wife Sarah were the parents of four children. In addition to his work in the pottery business, John was a Trenton councilman.
