From the 1955 Charleston City Directory, he operated Mundy's Grill at 1811 Reynolds Avenue (beer). In the 1958 city directory, it shows "Joe R. Mundy, retired liquors, 1809 Reynolds Avenue." So, it appears he operated a liquor store right next door to the grill at one point in time - also taking into account the photo with liquor bottles on the shelves behind him.

His wife Frances Lisle Mundy committed suicide at age 33 in 1942 and she is buried at Magnolia Cemetery in Charleston. He never remarried and there were no children. It is unknown why he was not buried with Frances.

His funeral was handled by J. Henry Stuhr in Charleston and a memorial was held in the North Chapel. According to the funeral home, no obituary was paid for, so most likely none was placed in the paper. Arrangements were handled by his sister Kella. Dates of birth and death were provided by the funeral home.

His sister Kella is also buried in this cemetery: FindaGrave Memorial #29053676 at http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=29053676
