Claire S. (Porter) Gallant - 84, of Andover, and formerly of North Reading, died at her home on Wednesday, October 6, 2010. She was the Beloved wife of the late Roland J. Gallant.
Born in Winchester, MA on August 6, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Carlyle C. and Ethel B. (Kimball) Porter. She was raised and attended school in North Reading.
Claire was a manager for the Salvation Army in Lawrence and a Quality Control Inspector for the Dorman and Bogman Company in Andover. She also worked at Kitty's Restaurant in North Reading.
Claire has been a resident of Andover for the past 64 years. She was a loving wife, and mother, who raised six boys. She never turned anyone away and always took in friends and relatives, when they were in need. Claire enjoyed yard sales, puzzles, crocheting, playing 500 Rummy and fishing.
Family members include her sons, John and his wife Susan; Steven and his wife Dee; Timothy and his wife Kathleen; Dennis and his wife Wendy and Kevin. She was the mother of the late Michael Gallant. Brothers, Kenny, Vernon Porter and stepbrother, Joe Rayball. Her sister, Mary Anne Boucher and her friend and caregiver, Judy Townsend. Also survived by 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and her great companion Abby.
Her funeral will be held from the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading on Tuesday, October 12, at 9:15 AM, followed by a 10:30 AM Funeral Mass at St. Theresa's Church, 63 Winter St. (Rt.62), North Reading. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 PM. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in North Reading.
