Joseph Jackson Jones was born probably between 1830 and 1840. He moved to Opp from Troy, Pike County, Alabama. He married Rebecca Pittman on Dec. 18, 1868 in Pike County, Alabama. He had been in the Civil war( PVT Co. K, 57 Ala. Regiment. - discharged 26 April 1865) and had his heel blown off in 1864 and he was discharged in 1865. In 1880 the Census has them living in Covington County, Alabama. Family history says they came as homesteaders to the Yellow River area of Dozier or Babbie in January, 1872.

He is #77 in the Census of Confederate Soldiers Residing in Alabama, 1907.
Full Nme: Joseph Jones; Present P.O. Address: Andalusia, RFD #2. Born in year 1840 at Troy in the County of Pike in the State of Alabama: first entered service as Private in 1863 at Troy, Alabama, in the Co. H. 57, Ala. Regiment and continued until 26th day of April, 1865, and was discharged.
