Robert A. "Bob" Bastron Sr., 84, of Bettendorf, formerly of Ottumwa, died Oct. 5, 2010, while fishing in Forsyth, Mo.

He was born July 23, 1926, in Ottumwa to Alexander and Grayce Koch Bastron. He married Mary Therese Schwortz Aug. 5, 1951. She preceded him in death Sept. 30, 1998.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1944, he earned a B.A. from the University of Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War ll.
He worked at Union Bank & Trust, serving as vice president and retiriing in 1991.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Ottumwa Rotary Club, Ruritan and had served on the board of The Salvation Army. Bob enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, bridge, traveling and spending time with family.

Surviving are two daughters, Ann(Ray)Reynertson of Wheaton, Ill., and Sue(John)Heidemann of Davenport; three sons, Paul(Darla)Bastron of Pleasant Prairie, Wis., Bob(Sarah)Bastron of Ottumwa, Tom(Teresa)Bastron of Runnells; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Dr. JamesLouise)Bastron of Rochester, Minn.; a sister, Barbara Affolter of Temecula, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Nicole Bastron.

Funeral Mass will be 10am Saturday at St.Patrick Catholic Church with Father John Hynes presiding. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery with military services conducted by O.B.Nelson Post #3 and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Visitation will begin at noon Friday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5-7pm Friday. A Christian Wake service will be held at 7pm Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Children International or Hospice, Ottumwa, Iowa.
