Earl Johnson, 96, of 451 Broad St., formally of 137 Washington St., died Monday (March 2, 1998) at Olean General Hospital.
Born January 8, 1902 in Red House, Mr Johnson was a son of the late Frank and Myrtle Stoddard Johnson. On May 5, 1923 in Salamanca, he married the former Hazel Easton, who predeceased him April 3, 1976.
Prior to his retirement in 1968, Mr. Johnson had owned and operated Earl Johnson's Lumber on Washington Street for 20 years. Previously he had been employed at Brook Locomotive in Dunkirk.
Mr. Johnson was a member of the United Methodist Congregational Church.
Surviving are on son, Dewey (Barbara) Johnson; two daughters, Dorothy Terhune and Mrs. Robert (Joyce) Siperek; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; on sister, Mrs. Loyal (Bertha) Burns; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one granddaughter, Cindy Siperek; three brothers, Harold Johnson, Lorren Johnson and Robert Johnson; and one sister, Ruby Brown.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the O'Rourke and O'Rourke, Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Congregational Church with the Rev. J. Peter Belec, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Crawford Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church, in care of Joyce Siperek, 4063 Bucktooth Run, Little Valley 14755, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
