Katherine A. Hefner, 97, of Huntsville passed away Tuesday. She was predeceased by her husband, Herman Ross Hefner; two brothers and six sisters. Katherine was an active member of First United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Vanderbilt University and the University of Alabama. Katherine served as a principal, teacher, and was Director of Elementary Education of Huntsville City Schools for over 46 years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, loved reading, and socializing with her many friends. Katherine was also involved in many other local organizations.

Survivors include her sister, Miriam A. Jones; two nieces and five nephews.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Coy Hallmark and the Rev. Sam Lassiter officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. in Forrest Cemetery, Gadsden.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or your favorite charity.
