Richard Kidder Woodson Sr. (1810-1889) was born in Jessamine County, but moved to a farm at Big Eddy on the Kentucky River in Franklin County. He married Emily Littlepage Hickman (1811-1865) in 1832. They lived on the Big Eddy farm until the beginning of the Civil War when they moved into town after President Abraham Lincoln appointed him U.S. Deputy Assessor. Emily died in 1865. After her death, Richard married Mary Willis Todd (Renwick), widow of Thomas Todd. Mary was born at "Glen Willis," an historic Frankfort house that still stands. Richard retired to his farm at Big Eddy in 1865.
Richard and Emily's son, Richard Kidder Woodson Jr., (1840-1863) served in the Orphan Brigade during the Civil War. At Murfreesboro he was wounded retrieving a fallen battle flag and died at a hospital 20 days later. He was awarded a medal of honor for his service.
Interred at the age of 79 on Dec. 5, 1889.
