IDA ABEL (d. 1939)

Mrs. Ida Abel, 78, wife of Captain William Able, veteran of the
Spanish-American war, died last night at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. Lottie Hatfield, of Park Falls, Wis., where Mr. and Mrs. Able
have been residing the past year. She had been an invalid for 15
years.
The body is to be brought to Manitowoc Wednesday and funeral services
will be held from the Wattawa, Urbanek and Schlei fuenral home.
Mrs. Abel, nee Ida Johnson, was born in Franklin, Kewaunee county in
1860 and in 1880 was married to Capt. William Abel of this city. They
resided at 820 North Ninth street, in 1898, when the United States
declard war against Spain Capt. Abel took the Manitowoc company to
the south, but illness prevented him from accompanying the command to
Puerto Rico.
In 1930 Capt. and mrs. Abel observed their golden wedding anniversary.
Survivors are the widower; one daughter, Mrs. Hutfield,of Park Falls,
Wis.; two sons, Major Walter Abel of this city, Edwin, retired United
States naval officer at Nice, Lake county, California; eight grand-
children and two-great-grandchildren. A son, Albert, preceded her in
death.
