Pvt. Jack Kidd entered the U.S. Army in March, 1942, and trained at Camp Hulen. He served in England, North Africa, France, Italy, Germany and Sicily.

Funeral services for Jack Kidd, 65, of Lake Palestine were held at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Rock Hill Baptist church with the Rev. David Russell, Rev. Charlie Woodard and Danny Bristow officiating. Burial followed in the Rock Hill cemetery under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home of Canton.

Mr. Kidd died Tuesday in an Athens Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.

He spent most of his life in the Brownsboro area, living six years in Athens and the past two years at Lake Palestine. He was a retired construction worker and farmer and was a member of the New Hope Methodist church and a veteran of WWII.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Kidd of Chandler and Raymond Kidd of Murchison; two daughters, Judith Reeves of Chandler and Jackie Delane DeCanter of Brownsboro; five brothers, John Kidd, Verdon Kidd and Coleman (Buster) Kidd, all of Brownsboro, Neal Kidd of Yuba City, Ca., and Bill Kidd of Athens; five sisters, Era Welch, Johnnie Olson and Louise Gideon, all of Brownsboro, Evalee Morman of Athens and Juanita Hardwick of Alexander, La.; eight grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Nephews served as pallbearers.
