Benjamin was born in Buckinghamshire and his birth was registered in Aylesbury. He was the second child and the only son of David Walker and Mary (née Brown) Walker. His sisters were Jane L. Walker (b. 1956), Ruth Ellen Walker (b. 1966) and Anne Marie Walker (b. 1968).

He attended Ashfold School at Dorton House until he was 13 years old when his education continued at Saint Edward's School in Oxford.

On Saturday, September 30, 1989, he married Laura Kenny in Queens, New York and they had three children, Henry, Christopher and Samantha. He had moved to New York in 1996 from Leighton Buzzard.

He was a football coach for the Hal Block Soccer League and the Ramapo Little League.

Benjamin worked as an insurance broker on the 91st floor in the North Tower.
