54, of Rt. 1, Helenwood, passed away Friday, August 20, at the Scott County Hospital. A member of the Baptist faith, he was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Chambers Abbott; his first wife, Audrey Lee Yancey; one son, Steve Abbott; and one sister, Selma Barnes. He is survived by his father, Artie Abbott of Rt. 1, Oneida; his wife, July Ellen Smith Abbott of Rt. 1, Helenwood; four daughters: Mrs. Terrance (Etta) Tupling of Muncie, Ind., Mrs. Larry (Judy) Johnson of Oneida, and Kenisha Michelle and Stacy Marlene Abbott, both of Rt. 1, Oneida; two sons: Lee Abbott of Rt. 2, Oneida, and Dennie Joe Abbott of Muncie, Ind.; four sisters: Mrs. Charles (Faye) Christie of Muncie, Ind., Madge Mayse and Mrs. Gilbert (Rosella) Patterson, both of Oneida, and Mrs. Jimmy (Lorine) Coffey of Winfield; one brother, Acmon Abbott of Rt. 1, Oneida; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Levi and Naomi West Smith, both of Oneida; eight grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 22, at the Pentecost Baptist Church in Oneida, with Rev. Brad Porter and Rev. James Laxton officiating. The Gospel Echoes sang and daughter, Kenisha Abbott played "When I Joined The Happy Circle" on the piano. Pallbearers were: Rick Christie, Mark Coffey, Danny Smith, Terry Tupling, Jim Mayse, and John Mayse. West-Murley Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
