Funeral Services for Edward
"Doyle" Berryman will be Monday,
June 20, at 2:30 p.m. at Taylor
Memorial Baptist Church, Brad
Reimers, pastor of Northside Baptist,
will officiate. Doyle was loved by all who
knew him; his favorite Scripture was
John 14:1-3. On June 17th at the age of
95 years and seven days he entered the
place in Heaven God had prepared for him.
Born June 3, 1910, to Maggie S. and John G.
Berryman in Robert Lee Texas, he was the third of seven children. In 1925, the family moved to Littlefield, Texas, where he graduated.
Doyle then attended business college in Lubbock, Texas. His military service included basics at Camp Grant, Ill., and a term at Goodfellow
Field in San Angelo, Texas. When discharged, he returned to building B-52s at North American Aviation in Grand Prairie, Texas. On Dec. 13, 1941, he married Ina Bell Rodgers in Dallas, Texas. Money was scarce
but life was good. In 1945, a move was made to Eunice where Ina Carol and Cathy were raised. The next move was made to Hobbs in 1982 in order to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Doyle loved and was faithful to his God, his family and his country.
Serving in church was important to him. Over the years he worked with youth, taught Sunday school and Training Union, sang tenor in the church choir, worked with the Brotherhood and served as a deacon.
Also, many visits were made to the sick and shut-in. Outside church he served God as a Gideon to distribute the Bible.
His family remembers him as patient, loving, kind and quick witted with a sense of humor. Ina Bell and Doyle enjoyed 64 years of marriage.
Carol and Cathy were blessed to have a godly father. The
grandchildren had an extra playmate in Doyle. He would have as much, if not more, fun than they did as he got on the floor with them and played games or played ball in the back yard.
Many in Eunice remember Doyle riding his bike around town in his suit. Even gardening, which he loved, was often done in a suit that had just been cleaned (much to Ina Bell's dismay). He also hunted and fished, played "42," and played beautiful hymns on the harmonica.
He was a true gentleman, always ready with a handshake and a smile. He was honest, dependable and a hard worker. This served him well in his various jobs. He helped on the family farm. Two summers he and Ina Bell picked fruit in California as they traveled. In Eunice he ran a photography studio and worked in the Eunice Hotel. In addition he was municipal judge and for 33 years he brokered real estate and sold life insurance. Because he was community minded he was a Rotarian and worked on the Eunice Chamber of Commerce and Industrial Development Committee.
Doyle was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Azalea Eubanks and Irene Brady; two brothers, Carroll and JG Berryman; a granddaughter, Miranda Celeste Chapman; and a great-grandson, Devon Michael Phelps. Doyle's wife, two daughters and their families survive him. His daughters and their husbands are Carol and Carl Randall and Cathy and Larry Chapman. Doyle's granddaughters and their husbands are Melissa and Andres Martinez and Sarah and
Brandon Phelps. His grandsons are David and Jason Randall and Cody and his wife, Amanda Chapman. Doyle is also survived by a sister, Ruth Vernon of Midland; a brother, Truitt Berryman and his wife Joyce of Torrance, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Jodie Berryman of Roswell, N.M.; and many loved nieces, nephews and their families.
The family of Doyle Berryman wishes to thank members of their church homes, Taylor Memorial Baptist and Northside Baptist, and others who also prayed, showed sympathy or did any kindness during Doyle's illness. They also want to thank VistaCare workers and the special caregivers who gave Doyle loving care and made a difficult time easier.
In lieu of flowers, family request donations be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 1481, Hobbs, NM 88240 or to your favorite charity.
