Ellen Sheeks, 82, Marion Street, died at 6:40 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at the Mitchell Manor Nursing Home. She had been ill for several months.
Born Sept. 13, 1906, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of George and Stella Bass Fields. She married Reath Sheeks and he died in 1961.
She was a member of the Mitchell Presbyterian Church and Prim Priscilla's Home Extension club.
Surviving are two grandchildren: Susie Mann of Mitchell and James Sheeks of Mooresville, three great-grandchildren, two brothers, Howard Fields, Mitchell and Jesse Fields, Orleans; four sisters, Addie Darnell, Mitchell, Gladys Busick, Paoli, Georgia Roth Slaughter, Ossian and Sue Tatton, Manti, UT.
She was preceded in death by a son, Carol Sheeks, a brother, Lawrence Fields and a sister Marie Burton.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Mitchell Presbyterian church with Dr. Guy Newland officiating. Burial was in the Sheeks Cemetery under the direction of the Chastain Funeral Home.
