Tyndall Tribune and Register, Thursday, October 21, 1971

Miss Anna C. Ryan, 79, longtime Tyndall business woman, died at St. Michael's Hospital Saturday, October 16, 1971. Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Leo Catholic Church Monday at 1:00 p.m. with Msgr. Leonard F. Zwinger officiant. Burial was in the parish cemetery. A scripture service was held in the church Sunday evening. Pall bearers were Floyd Spehn, Eugene Koenig, Marvin Peterson, Bernard Post, William Hoch and Peter C. Becvar. Petrik Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. She was born in Omaha, NE, July 21, 1892, to Mr. and Mrs. James P. Ryan. She attended school in Creighton, NE. In 1905, she came with her parents to a homestead near Burke. In 1912, she came to Tyndall to be employed by the Robinson Abstracting Company, which she later took over and operated until 1968. She also operated her insurance agency.

Miss Ann Ryan, who has been visiting her uncle and aunt, Captain and Mrs. John Townsend, returned to her home in Tyndall, South Dakota, last week. Miss Ryan spent the past three months abroad. Her itinerary included a trip through the Mediterranean and Black Sea with stops at different points in Egypt, Turkey, Italy and France. Easter week she spent in Jerusalem and the Holy Land. Later she had the honor of an audience with Pope Pius XI. This confirms that Anna Ryan's father James Ryan and Mrs. Townsend (Annie Ryan, memorial #121531966) are siblings.

Nell Lehr and Anna C. Ryan were involved in a car-train wreck in Tyndall on December 16, 1957. Both were seriously injured.

Preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters Nell, Mrs. Robert Lehr and Margaret, Mrs. Joseph Denis and four brothers, Jack (John Joseph) of Tulsa, Oklahoma (born 29 Nov 1886, Marquette, Michigan, death was after February, 1955, place/date of death/burial is unknown), Edward Joseph, James Leo and Walter Joseph. Surviving are three nieces and six nephews. She was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and American Legion Auxiliary. This group conducted their committal ritual at the graveside.

Funeral Mass for Miss Anna C. Ryan, 79, was to be held Monday afternoon at St. Leo’s Catholic Church with Msgr. L. S. Zwinger officiating. Burial was to be in the church cemetery under the direction of the Petrik funeral home. Miss Ryan was born at Omaha, July 21, 1898 to Mr. and Mrs. James P. Ryan and died Saturday, October 16, 1971 at the local hospital after a long illness. She came to Tyndall in 1912 and had operated an abstracting office and insurance agency until retiring in 1968. Survivors include nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
