Canton Commercial Advertiser - Thursday May 18, 1882

Mrs. Persis Collins died suddenly at the residence of her son-in-law, H. D. Ellsworth, Esq., in this village, on the morning of Friday, 12th inst. She had been indisposed for two or three days, but not seriously ill, and up to three o'clock on the morning of her death, when her daughter awoke her to administer the medicine prescribed by her physician, she appeared to be progressing favorably. Shortly afterward she fell asleep, and about six o'clock passed peacefully into the sleep that knows no waking. So quiet was her decease that she appeared to be still sleeping when her daughter went to her bedside and discovered that the vital spark had flown. She died of heart disease.

Mrs. Collins was a native of Cornwall, Vt. At an early age she was married to Mr. Avery Collins, and came with her husband to this county, settling on a farm in the town of Lawrence. There they lived till the year 1860, when they moved to Canton. Her husband died in 1868. For the last ten years her home has been with Mr. and Mrs. Ellsworth. She became a member of the Presbyterian church in her youth, and remained an exemplary christian lady to the time of her death.

Mrs. Collins was the mother of eight children, four of whom are living - Thomas S. Collins in Dorset, Vt; Jerome H. Collins at Boulder City, Col.; Ezra M. Collins at Fremont, Neb, and Mrs. H. D. Ellsworth of this village. Her age was 73 years. Obituary courtesy of Anne Cady
