Hazel was born to William Gillen Snook and Martha Alice Leland Snook on June 1, 1893. The Snooks came from Fairfield, Jefferson County, Iowa to Wymore in the late 1800's. Prior to coming to Iowa, they were an old New Jersey family coming to the United States from Germany prior to the Revolutionary War.
