SAT. AUG 5, 1939 "STATE RANCH OWNER DIES"
Josiah James Anderson, pioneer Arizona rancher and cattleman, died yesterday at his ranch near Hayden.
Death was attributed to a heart attack, which claimed the 65-year-old man as he slept.
Mr. Anderson who lived with his family at their home in Phoenix, 1026 N. 3rd Street during the winter, had been assisting with the summer cattle work at the ranch.
Born November 5, 1873 at Humboldt, Kan. where his father was a cattleman, Mr. Anderson first came to Arizona in 1887 to establish cattle shipping headquarters at Gila Bend.
He bought the Crescent Ranch, where he died, in 1914.
In addition to his wife, Regna, Mr. Anderson is survived by a son, John R; a daughter Eleanor Jo, both of Phoenix; and three sisters Mrs. M. A. B. Murphy, Phoenix; Mrs. Okla A. Noonan, Gila Bend and Mrs. H. B. Davenport, Tucson.
Funeral arrangements for the cattleman had not been completed last night.
