Ethel Rebecca Radford Smith was born June 11, 1896, in Shelton Idaho. She died
at Bingham Memorial Hospital March 20, 1968, of a heart ailment.
She was the daughter of Daniel H. and Hannah Morgan Radford. When Ethel was
a young child she journeyed with her family by wagons to the Hailey, Idaho area. Their
family settled near the Silver Star mine and their father cut timber for a living. Ethel's
father died when she was nine years old, so she was closely associated with mother, and later they worked together until Ethel was 20 years old. On May 11, 1915, Ethel married Lawrence Scott of Lebell, Idaho, who did dry farming in the Antelope area. To this union was born two daughters, Wanda and Wilma - because of differences they couldn't solve, Ethel and Lawrence were divorced after a few years. Ethel met a rancher, Lawrence Johnson from Cokeville, Wyoming, they fell in love and were married March 12, 1924. He wintered sheep and cattle in the Wicks country and trailed them to Crane Flatts, where their summer ranch was located. Two daughters were born to Ethel and Lawrence, June and Nola. After a few years Lawrence became seriously ill and after four years of suffering and seeking inadequate medical help, he died on January 16, 1929. It was following his death that Ethel returned to Blackfoot to provide home for her four children. Five years later, in July 1934, Ethel married Mike Jensen who farmed in the Preston area. After 12 years he died. As you can see, Ethel lived very tragic life, but to know this concerning sweet woman, one would never guess the depth of sorrow she concealed. Once again, she returned to her home in Blackfoot and was employed a the Gun Plant in Pocatello where she met William K. Smith. They were married in 1949. While living in Soda Springs her husband Bill took ill, so they returned to Blackfoot where Ethel was employed at the Colonial Inn. Bill died July 21, 1961. She enjoyed doing needlework and her workmanship was beautiful. She was talented in arranging flowers and her home reflected her artistry and beauty.FUNERAL-ETHEL RADFORD SMITH
