Merton Wabeke, 95, of Zeeland, passed away Monday, March 14, 2011 at his home.
Merton was born August 21, 1915 in Plainwell, Michigan to Henry and Hattie Wabeke. Mert married Frieda Cooke and the raised their family in Zeeland. Mert owned Forest Grove Feed Mill for 15 years and also was a truck driver and farmer. Mert and Freida were members of Vriesland Reformed Church. Freida preceded him in death on January 5, 2011.
Mert is survived by his children: Sandy and Randy Lamer of Zeeland, Nancy and Tom Curnick of Zeeland, Doug and Cindy Wabeke of Jenison, three grandchildren: Scott and Julie Lamer, Tammy and Curt Barense, Rick and Margorie Lamer, seven great grandchildren, sister-in-law Mildred Swinson.
A memorial service to honor Mert's faith and life will be held at 12:30 pm, Friday, March 18, 2011 at Vriesland Reformed Church, 6839 Byron Rd., Zeeland. The Rev. Tim Rotman will officiate. Visitation will be 4-8 pm, Thursday at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland. Burial will be in Vriesland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Vriesland Reformed Church.
